February 1993 saw the publication of the inaugural issue ofthe Journal of Medical Biography. Thirty years later I amtherefore delighted to be celebrating both the success ofthe publication with its 31st volume and a very securefuture in terms of readership numbers and the continualsubmission of exceptional papers from an increasinglyinternational and diverse academic audience. In acknowl-edgement of this being an anniversary issue, I am pleasedto include Dr Henry Connor’s discussion of the firsteditor, Dr John Michael Henderson Moll (1939-2017)and the legacy of his approach which was so influential inthe creation of this journal whilst allowing it to continuallyevolve and so maintain its relevance to medical history. John Moll was exceptional in the way he recognised thetrue value of biography and was supported in his endea-vours by the first editorial board. Likewise, I also continueto greatly value the support of the members of both theEditorial and Advisory Boards who give so much of theirtime to ensuring that the Journal of Medical Biographyremains at the forefront of academic study relating to therapidly increasing field of medical history. Over the past30 years, there have been changes, which are essential forany publication if it is to survive and prosper.
