This publication summarizes the search for alternative solutions for positioning improvements of an ASRS shuttle. Figure 1 shows a general overview of one layer of an automatic storage and retrieval system (ASRS) where shuttles bring items to and from storage locations in a rack. The shuttles move in (storage) aisles between rows of storage positions. Vertical transport is done with lifts. Optionally cross aisles can be applied to enable the shuttles to move between different aisles and lifts.
