A fter navigating the difficulties of the last two-plus years, deli and meat departments are continuing to develop successful strategies and grow market share. A variety of deli options give consumers opportunities to curate what they want at the deli counter whether it's traditional cuts or specialty products. Chicago-based market research firm IRI said that for the 52 weeks ending June 12, 2022, lunch meat deli service sales, which topped $4.8 billion, continue to be the leading area of the deli meat aisle. Subcategories include turkey at $1.7 billion, ham at $1.5 billion, beef at $619.7 million and chicken at $350.3 million. IRI data also showed that deli grab-and-go demand continues to show signs of picking up steam. The entire category sits at $2.3 billion over the past year, including subcategories of turkey at $903.3 million, ham at $728.9 million, beef at $240.4 million and salami at $175.2 million.
