John and I

John Yoshio Naka was regarded as one of the greatest and most renowned bonsai masters in the world He was the recipient of numerous awards and recognition, and has given numerous contributions to the world of bonsai during his over 50 years of involvement in bonsai. When the St. Louis BCI 2004 Committee learned that I was attending the conference, they asked if I would talk about John Naka during the main banquet June 19 would make exactly a month after John's death. Initially I turned down this request but after giving some thought, I agreed I pie-pared my speech based on my personal association with John.
