Suiseki Aesthetics Part Two

Tanseki Oouchi, the president of the Japan Aiseki Association has written about the two types of suiseki display: the shakei teki or suggestive landscape approach, and the shaiteki, or suggestive psychological and philosophical type. In both approaches, however, he writes that artists should try to develop originality and maintain personal aesthetic principles and beliefs without being disturbed by critics who follow only basic principles. Open-minded judges at suiseki displays would be helpful for future and positive development of the suiseki art.
