The introduction and utilization of light elements such as B, C, and N into Fe alloy is very interesting and important in the development of new magnetic materials. Fe_(16)N_2 was reported to have a giant magnetic moment in 1972 and is a good example to think over from this point of view. We have investigated the synthesis of (Fe, M)_(16)X_2 (M = Co, AI, etc., X = N, C) particles with solid-gas reactions, such as reduction, nitridation, and carbonization. In this article, we discuss the possibility of there being an advent in new hard or soft magnetic materials by modifyingFe_(16)N_2.
