Sally Mitchell, a high-school science teacher in Syracuse, New York, pulls no punches about the necessity of metric conversion. When she spoke to a group of middle-school students at the recent US Department of Energy National Science Bowl, she declared her goal: "finally metricate the USA once and for all." For that, she received a standing ovation from the 300 students.
