LA MALLORQUINA TEN YEARS IN DESIGN - THE JUNIPERUS PHOENICEA

In 1999 Massimo 'Bandera had the opportunity to work on a colossal leaning style Mediterranean Juniper atthe Ullastres Bonsai Club of Mr. Angel Mota. Two years earlier in the spring of 1997, its owner Mr. Biel, had collectedthe specimen from the Mallorquina Mountain (photo on page 10) using Yamadori techniques to achieve proper rootingfor this difficult species. Juniperus phoenicea is a small shrub-like tree that rarely grows more than 8 to 10 meters in height. The trunkis short and thick, most of the time straight but on occasion it features multiple trunks without a clear nominal stem.Its foliage mass is round and dense and individual scale-like leaves have a uniform oval shape with a dented margins(photo on page 10).
