The future of the 1,413-MW Mystic natural gas-fired power plantand Everett LNG terminal near Boston hangs in the balancewith a cost-of-service agreement ending in 2024 that ISO NewEngland has said it does not plan to extend, though power andgas system reliability concerns remain.The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s 2nd NewEngland Winter Gas-Electric Forum is scheduled for June 20,during which the Mystic and Everett facilities will likely bediscussed. Gordon van Welie, ISO-NE’s CEO, recently said that theISO “had no intention to retain Mystic after its Cost-of-ServiceAgreement expires” and would be “uninterested in exploringoptions inconsistent with those plans,” according to a NewEngland Power Pool memo posted to the ISO’s website.
