Any book on management invariably discusses the need for an organisation to be customer-focused. Since its inception KiwiRail and its owner, the Government on our behalf, have been working towards increasing the business, and they appear to be achieving their goal of providing good rail services to their customers. In the Down at the Station section of this issue is a news item about traffic from Winstone Pulp International at Tangiwai having doubled in the last year with scope for more growth in business from this plant. This is an example of customer and rail working together to the benefit of both parties.
