Regional Bonsai Care: Collected American Trees, Part II

In Fart One of this topic, the ABS Regional Care series examined if and how we might keep collected specimens alive in different geographical areas. Obviously, it's not a critical issue how to keep something alive when it grows naturally in your own area, at least if it's a species known to be adaptable to bonsai culture in the first place (a possible topic for the future?). The real interest for our purposes is what trees can be expected to thrive in areas of different climate than their own climate? In other words, can that buttonwood bonsai really ever survive in California? Can American Larch bonsai survive in Alabama?
