International bonsai was created by an unselfish, idealistic "greatest generation." In creating an appreciation of all forms of artistic pot plants, former World War II enemies shared a vision of international friendship and peace through the universal beauty of bonsai. Saburo Kato was the Japanese bonsai internationalist whose humanity, sincerity, talent and leadership inspired unselfish contributions and cooperation. John Naka's masterful reduction of upright junipers in his magnificent Goshin forest was an early milestone of American creativity. Haruo "Papa" Kaneshiro was our Hawaiian bridge to Japanese bonsai as he pioneered tropical bonsai. Yee-sunWu enlarged our perspective by introducing the underlying Chinese aristocratic principles that added another bonsai dimension.
