Regional Bonsai Care

At least occasionally it is worthwhile restating the goals and format of the ABS Regional Care series, which has now been a regular feature in the journal for two years. The intent is to examine some aspect of bonsai care that might require differentapproaches in different geographical climates of our North American target readership. Typically, bonsai books, publications and internet articles present instructional care tips without reference as to whether the care applies in all climates; often this can actually differ wildly, for example in Southern California compared to Toronto, Canada. Thus, ABS felt that it would be helpful to see how people in different parts of the country approach some specific aspect of bonsai care. Our topics have ranged from basic general tasks such as soil, to more specifics advanced techniques such as defoliation.
