Plying alters various parameters of acrylic air-jet spun yarns. A plied yarn produced by twisting in the direction opposite to the direction of wrapping of the surface fibres is stronger, less rigid, more regular and has higher abrasion resistance, but lower breaking extension. Further there is a marked reduction in hairiness on plying.
