CLINICO-PATHOLOGICAL, MOLECULAR DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPEUTIC MANAGEMENT OF LUMPY SKIN DISEASE IN CATTLE IN GUJARAT, INDIA

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a highly infectious, trending viral disease affecting the livestock industry of India as well as world. This paper reports clinico-pathological features, molecular diagnosis and therapeutic management of LSD in cattle from nearby villages of Sardarkrushinagar, Gujarat, India. Affected cattle were presented with small to large sized circumscribed nodular eruptions all over the skin and, in udder, teats and vulvar flaps in particular. Detailed clinical examination revealed pyrexia (104.45±0.16 °F), tachycardia (65.00±0.96 bpm) and tachypnea (36.00±0.76/min). Besides these, lameness and edema of legs was also noticed. LSD infected animals showed significant reductions in erythron value, leukocytosis, and significant increase in blood urea nitrogen (BUN). The case was managed vigorously with broad spectrum antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and antihistaminic drugs.
