The introduction of the Master Curve Approach enables the description of the scatter of the fracture toughness behaviour of ferritic and martensitic steels in the temperature transition region and in the lower shelf. The Master Curve Approach was standardized in the ASTM E 1921 and is meanwhile widely applied. A main advantage is the clear determination of an objective toughness criterion, the reference temperature T_0 while compensating the scatter of results and existent size effects. Within the last revision ASTM E 1921-02 some modifications were made which will be exemplified in this article. The current revision and the former ASTM 1921-97 are compared and the effects are shown at some examples. Censoring and different data selection will be regarded concerning its sensibility to the T_0-temperature determination by the example of a a pressure vessel steel.
