CALIFORNIA’S GROUNDWATER IS both a precious and an abundant natural resource, providing about 40% of the state’s water supply in most years, and as much as 60 percent during droughts. Much of this water is used for agricultural irrigation, often to supplement surface water. Groundwater also provides a significant part of the state’s drinking water supply.
