THE fortunes of Thai Petrochemical Industry (TPI)have improved significantly over the past two years,but the company is still a long way from making a full recovery.Nevertheless,the signs are more positive than they have been for some time.TPI,like many other Thai companies,fell victim to the near-collapse of the Thai economy in 1997 when the slide in the Thai baht left it unable to service its foreign currency-denominated debt.The crisis saw TPI,the most fully integrated petrochemical company in Thailand,with businesses from oil refining to petrochemicals,stop repayment of its principal debt.It still remains the biggest debtor in the country with a total outstanding debt of US
