CALCULATION OF BORED PILES IN ROCK UNDER A COMPRESSIVE AXIAL LOAD

Russian and foreign investigations of the bearing capacity of bored piles in rock are reviewed. Attention is focused primarily on the bearing capacity of piles along lateral surfaces. Aspects of the pile-rock interaction that significantly impact the pile behavior but are not always accounted for adequately in the construction documents are discussed.
