The Artisans Cup bonsai show held at the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon this last September was not the first national level show but promised to be unique in its attention to the entire bonsai experience through non-traditional display elements. The specially designed display frame work with its tree enhancing lighting, artisan craftsmanship of pots and stands, and accent pieces meant to enhance elements of the tree, and atmosphere catapulted bonsai into a true art form in the United States. At this point most bonsai enthusiasts, if they did not have the opportunity to attend, at least have seen photographs on social media and are a little familiar with the event.
