Ceramic Industries aided by cost reductions

Bemoaning adverse trading conditions which it said curbed its performance, tile and sani-taryware manufacturer Ceramic Industries (CRM) reported a 1.6% increase in headline earnings from 86.8 million rand to 88.2 million rand for the six months ended 31 January 2011. CEO Nick Booth said: "In line with our forecasts, no meaningful economic recovery occurred in the building and construction industry in the review period. The slow rate of new build projects in the private and public sector continued, and there was little improvement in the subdued renovations market.
