摘要

THE MISSOURI RIVER BASIN, A TRANSBOUNDARY watershed located in the center of the North American continent, is home to diverse flora and fauna, as well as rich and diverse cultures spanning two countries, 10 U.S. states, and 28 tribal territories. More than 10 million people, composed of indigenous, settler, and more recent immigrant communities, reside in the basin. The river is one of two major tributaries of the fourth largest basin in the world, the Mississippi, and is a drinking-water source for more than 20 million people.
