In this issue of Obesity Management, CORE brings you the second of two tools that will help you get parents engaged with children in the educational process of preparing a healthy meal (see Healthy Lunch Tool in Obesity Management 2008;4:248-249). Breakfast has been said to be the most important meal of the day, but the food choices at breakfast may be even more important.Research shows that those who eat breakfast have fewer weight problems, better cognitive performance, especially children and adolescents, and better overall nutrition. The Expert Committee pediatric recommendations released in 2007 identify the regular inclusion of breakfast as a behavioral strategy to prevent unhealthy weight gain. Furthermore, the experts guide clinicians to encourage more structure in daily meals when children move into the structured weight management tier). Breakfast is also a strategy commonly used to sustain significant weight loss.
