Natural dyes are eco-friendly, biodegradable and less toxic and less allergic compared to synthetic dyes. Although after the discovery of Perkins mauve in 1856, natural dyes for textile colouration were replaced largely by synthetic dyes, lately there has been a revival of the use of natural dyes for dyeing textiles. Natural dyes have several advantages over synthetic dyes from the point of view of health, safety and ecology. They are known and used for thousands of years without any report showing that they are harmful. The processing of natural dyes do not pose the hazardous environmental problems.
