Loess in China and Europe: A tribute to Edward Derbyshire

The publication of this special volume once again confirms the highly successful symbiosis between the INQUA Loess Focus Group and Quaternary International. Since Cremaschi (1990) edited the first Quaternary International special volume on loess, many prominent loess themed special volumes have been published in the official INQUA journal (Pecsi and Loczy, 1990; Derbyshire et al., 2001; Velichko et al., 2006; Zoeller and Faust, 2009; Markovic et al., 2009a, 2011a; Frechen, 2011; Jary et al., 2013; Horvath and Frechen, 2014). This is the second special volume to be published on the recent conference dedicated to the enormous contribution of Professor Edward Derbyshire to global loess research and, at the same time, to celebrate his 80th birthday.
