"Low maintenance" is a watchword for contemporary design. The need to reduce maintenance— whether driven by ecological concerns, time constraints, or economic boundaries—is prevalent. This is good. However, there is a gap between when sustain-ability takes hold in the minds and actions of designers and clients and when technology and the marketplace catch up.
