The 2020 Summer Olympics (XXXII Modern Olympiad) were held between 23 July and 28 August 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was interested to see whether metric units were more widely used in reporting on this occasion than for the 2016 Olympiad. My informal observations were that coverage, for which the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) had paid in the billions of dollars for exclusive worldwide rights, was almost exclusively metric; much more so than for Rio de Janeiro 2016. Very infrequently were US legacy units used, even in events such as track & field and weightlifting, where previously conversions into legacy units were more frequently provided.
