摘要

The installation of CONSTEEL has enabled ORI Martin to decrease significantly the costs of producing liquid steel, to meet high standards of environmental protection, and to minimise disturbance to the power supply network. The results obtained have exceeded expectations but ORI Martin and Techint believe that there is scope for enhancement of performance and are working together to achieve this goal.Together with Centro Sviluppo Materiali (CSM) both parties are now involved in a research project partially founded by the European Community. The aim is to study the post-combustion of furnace off-gas in order to maximise heat recovery and control emissions.Another development is the installation by Techint on ORI Martin's furnace of a new type of digital electrode regulation. The system, based on current waveform analysis, detects arcing conditions and acts on process parameter such as lance flow rates, scrap feeding rate, and electrical set points in order optimise arc stability thus decreasing further the consumption of energy and electrodes, and also reducing noise and electrical disturbances.
