Algeria: Four firms compete for USD4 billion El-Merk export pipeline project

Stiff competition is expected in the race to secure contracts on the estimated 3,000 million-4,000 million dollars El-Merk oil field development, with at least four companies short-listed for each of the six packages. Those selected to bid for the export pipelines package are: Saipem-Snamprogetti, Bonatti and Techint, all of Italy; the US' Bechtel; and a joint venture of US-based Willbros Group and Saudi Arabia's National Contracting Company (NCC).
