Algeria: Government likely to privatize state-owned steel mills

An invitation to tender has been launched by Industry and Investment Promotion Ministry for the privatization of 13 companies, operating notably in electronics industry, smelting works and roadwork. Algeria is searching for buyers of 13 medium-sized state companies, part of economic reforms aimed at improving the management of an ailing private sector and creating much-needed jobs. The industry ministry said at least half the capital of all the companies on offer would be sold via tendering under an industry restructuring and privatisation plan spearheaded by the European Commission, according to official news agency APS.
