The French company Alstom has won a contract from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the supply of four 720-MW steam-turbine generator sets for the power station under construction at Shuqaiq, on the right bank of the Red Sea. HHI is the main contractor for the project. Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) awarded a turnkey contract worth SR 12.23 billion ($3.26 billion) to HHI in August for the construction of the Shuqaiq steam power station, which is due to have a capacity of 2,650 MW (AOG, 1 Sept., 2013). [Editor's note: Alstom does not provide any explanation for the difference between the combined capacity of the generators it is supplying and the planned generating capacity of the plant].
