摘要

In construction of road, the activity of pavement construction consumes significant amount of stone aggregates of various size. The availability of aggregates however remains a matter of concern for construction agencies. Further, growing concern on ecology and environment demand that least disturbance is caused to the forest and ecology of the area and the consumption of aggregate is minimized in construction of road to minimize carbon foot print. Many State Govt has also been imposing restriction on quarry operation because of these concerns. In respect of hill roads the issues gets compounded further due to limited availability of working period and its implication on the overall completion period. All these issues therefore demands that design of pavement is optimized in a manner that it consumes minimum quantity of aggregates while meeting the laid down design criteria for the design traffic intensity and CBR value of the sub-grade.
