Off-season starts in global market

Prices have been moving in opposite directions in the global market in April. After the sharp increase resulting from the speculations in the stock market in March, manganese alloy prices in China are hovering at March levels. Chinese prices will not come up because of the decrease in steel product quotes resulting from excessive production and lower consumption amid the lack of stimulation and the downturn in the cost of raw materials, especially iron ore, coke, and coal in view of the recovery of mining in Australia. Because of the decrease in China's manganese ore port stock levels, May prices have risen globally. At the time of publication, South African suppliers have stabilized June prices. Electricity tariffs will drop in China by the end of Q2, but ferroalloy producers will have to use comparatively expensive May ore, being unlikely to cut offers.
