Social Change Is Needed For Recycling

U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), a sponsor of House Bill 1034, referred to as Zero Waste Development and Expansion Act of 2017, gave a passionate speech during the last session at the Resource Recycling Conference held last month in Minneapolis. In Ellison's talk, he outlined the need for social change, economic and social shifting in regards to a more incentivized approach which favors recycling versus landfilling or burning non-recyclable items. Ellison represents the 5th District of Minnesota, an area which includes the city of Minneapolis. The following is Ellison's speech he gave verbatim on recycling during the Recycling Policies In The New Administration session at the conference: I know who the on the ground everyday heroes are in the fight for our climate, in the fight for zero waste, in the fight for putting folks to wage with livable wage jobs, and that is you. And I want to say thank you. Not one single thing I have ever done has been done in isolation. So I definitely want to say that I appreciate you, and I want to lift you up as the heroes that you are. In fact, my opinion is you are working on what maybe the most important thing for anyone to work on, which is saving this planet.
