A healthy, 4-month-old female infant presented with two reddish, small, painless nodules on the distal phalanx of the toes, which progressively increased in size. She was otherwise healthy. There was no history of trauma or inflammation. On physical examination, a firm, erythematous papule 1 cm in diameter was found on the distal phalanx of the fifth and third toes of the left and right foot respectively (figure 1). A skin biopsy was performed and showed a proliferation of cells identified as myofibroblasts that are arranged interlacing fascicles in the dermis with some eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusions (figure 2). These findings are consistent with the diagnosis of infantile digital fibromatosis (IDF).
