Japan: Second Posco-JKPC plant opens

THE second Posco-JKPC (Japan Kyushu Processing Center) plant opened in Kyushu, Japan, on 21 May. With an annual processing capacity of 150,000 tons of automotive steel plates, the plant is expected to offer logistics services for a maximum of 400,000 tons of steel products every year. The new plant is the third of its kind built by Posco in Japan, following those in Osaka and Yokohama. Kyushu is where some major Japanese OEMs, such as Toyota and Nissan, are based, with 1.5 million vehicles produced annually in the region. The region is also where Posco began operating a processing centre for the first time in Japan. Posco founded Posmetal, a predecessor of Posco-JKPC, in 1994, and has provided cold-rolled steel products for various home electronic appliances.
