According to customs data from China, supplies of Russian crude to the country shot up by 21 on the month to 930K b/d in May. At the same time, Saudi Arabian shipments to China fell by 43 on the month to just 722K b/d. "Russian imports are likely to stay high over the next several years as these long-term crude supply contracts kick in," said Energy Aspects head of oil research Amrita Sen. "By our records, which started in 2007, this is the first time Russia is China's top crude supplier."
