In response to tightening EU rules regarding NOx releases from refineries, the Spanish refinery has had GE Power Water install new combustion technology on its gas turbine systems at the 115K-b/d Gibraltar San-Roque refinery. The technology involves Dry Low NOx (DLN) combustion systems that allows the use of waste refinery fuel gas (RFG)-or off-gas-as fuel, allowing the plant to generate power on site. CEPSA has been using the new system since early 2014.
