Chinese MTO, gasoline blending to draw more methanol.

According to analysis from ICIS, methanol-to-olefins (MTO) processes account for about 9 of global methanol demand, about on par with demand for acetic acid production and behind gasoline additives (about 27 of consumption) and formaldehyde production (about 30 of consumption). The analysis indicated that as of Dec. 2014, there were 14 operable MTO plants in China, with the capacity to convert about 6.255MM mt/y of methanol into ethylene and propylene. With another 15 projects currently under construction, Chinese MTO methanol consumption could rise to 17.4MM mt/y by 2017.
