MANGANESE ORE AND CONCENTRATE

Approximately 2,123 ths. tons of manganese ore has been produced in Ukraine over the ten months of 2002 according to the preliminary estimates. This index is more than 5 percent lower than the corresponding volume of the same period in 2001. import deliveries of manganese ore and concentrate constituted about 705 ths. tons with the average prices comprising USD/MT 84 in the period under review. More than half of the total deliveries was represented by shipments of manganese ore and concentrate containing 48-51 percent of pure substance. Ghana, Australia, and Georgia became the main supplying countries of manganese ore and concentrate to Ukraine in January-October 2002. approximately 170 ths. tons or manganese ore and concentrate were shipped from Ukraine in the period under review. Average prices herewith constituted approximately USD/MT 63. about 85 percent of the total deliveries were represented by shipments of manganese ore and concentrate containing 40-44 percent of pure substance. Russian Federation became the main buyer of this Ukrainian product over the first ten months of 2002.
