Combine harvester for Ukrainian grain

Ukraine is a large producer of grain cereals, and sufficient harvesting machinery stock for domestic agriculture is a strategic matter for the country. With present technical capacities of combine stock in the country, farmers are able to harvest only one third of acreage planted on schedule. Taking into account wear rate of the machinery, annual loss of grain ranges from 4 mn to 8 mn tons, different sources report. Specialists estimate that combine harvesters' park in Ukraine at present numbers some 60 ths. vehicles. Around 80 percent of these are outdated, and 30 percent are even beyond repair. Apparently, the stock of operating machinery is 40-45 ths. units. At the same time, specialists of Ukraine's Agrarian Policy Ministry estimate farmers' demand for harvesting machinery at 110-120 ths. combines (approximately, the same number was registered in the country in 1992).
