Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antifungal drugs in children

Providing an adequate exposure to antifungal drugs is a crucial aspect of the treatment of invasive fungal infections. Consequently, the age-related pharmacokinetic changes during childhood must be taken into account to determine the dose to be administered in children. The present article proposes an updated review of the pediatric pharmacology of the main antifungal drugs currently used (amphotericin B, flucy-tosine, triazole compounds and echinocandins). Last, the relevance for children of the current guidelines for the therapeutic drug monitoring of antifungal drugs is discussed.
