US: GM and Teijin team on carbon fibre

General Motors has announced a partnership with Japanese carbon fibre and composite specialist Teijin Limited. The partners will collaborate on the development of carbon fibre composite technologies for "potential high-volume use" globally in GM vehicles. Under an agreement signed on 8 December, development work will involve the use of Teijin's innovative carbon fibre reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) technology, which it claims is a faster and more efficient way to produce carbon fibre composites that could be introduced on mainstream vehicles. Teijin expects the arrangement to allow for a an expansion of its portfolio, currently limited to specialty and high-end automotive carbon fibre applications.
