Wessex tops the CRC table

Wessex Water came out top of the water companies in the first CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme performance league table, published by the Environment Agency. The CRC is a mandatory government scheme aimed at cutting emissions in large public and private sector organisations. The table ranks them in terms of their Early Action to manage their energy. Fifty per cent of the score is based on the installation of half-hourly meters on large plant and the other half on gaining a Carbon Savings Trust standard. Wessex was placed 30 out of the 2000 companies and organisations, with a 98% Early Action Metric, while Thames Water was close on its tail at 38. Julia Clarke, Wessex Water's energy coordinator, said: "We are thrilled with our position in the CRC performance league table and that we have come top out of all the water companies. We have been reporting our sustainability commitments since the 1990s and to have been recognised for this achievement is important to us."
