Researchers at the University of Barcelona in Spain have identified that raw sewage provides the 'perfect ecosystem' for studying the diversity of viruses. The pioneering study, published in the journal mBio, which applies metagenomics to the analysis of viral populations present in sewage, reveals that the viral universe is far larger than previously thought.
