Long Staple Cotton in Israel

Since 1998, cotton area in Israel has been about 15,000 hectares annually, compared with 30,000 hectares previously. The area sown to Pima has varied significantly over the years, as shown in Diagram No 1, resulting in fluctuation in the quantity of Pima produced, as shown in Diagram No, 2. In recent years, the Pima varieties used have consisted of seeds developed by the "Israel Seeds" company Every few years farmers have been able to grow a new, improved vatie-ty with higher qualities as indicated in Table No. 1.
