Response to Fujita et al.

To the Editor: Thank you for the opportunity to reply to the letter by Dr Fujita (1). Essentially he makes the point that our study exploring associations between campylobacter infections and the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) maybe subject to selection bias. He cites a number of studies that have explored such risk factors as traveling abroad, eating undercooked poultry and having a puppy as a pet, and speculates that subjects using PPIs may be less likely to embark on traveling abroad or more wary of eating food that could be contaminated.
