Car sales stay depressed in Turkey

Economic headwinds keep affecting the Turkish automotive sector, one of the major steel consuming areas in the country. The prospects could hardly be described as prominent, taking into account steadily weak consumer confdence.Turkey registered a 45.7% year-on-year drop in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sales at 239,317 units in January-August, according to local Automotive Distributors’ Association (oDD). Specifcally, although the light commercial vehicle market lost 51.9% over the period under the review, the biggest contribution to shrinking fgures came from a plunge in passenger car sales, as its share in total volume amounts to as much as 81%. The economic challenges affected the interest in foreign autos, the share of which in total sales lost 7.4 p.p. year-on-year, coming to 55.3%, Metal Expert learnt.
