China Al output hits record high

Data from the NBS show that China produced 547,437 tonnes of aluminum in May 2004, setting a fresh record high on a monthly basis. In the first five months of this year, the metal output reached 2,588,387 tonnes with an increase of 24.6 percent year-on-year. Although some small-sized smelters have been closed down and some smelters have been running below their designed capacity in recent months, the newly-added output from those new potlines at some companies has largely exceeded the output loss by the closure. For example, the potlines at Shandong-based Chiping Xinfa Power Co.(cooperates with East Hope Group) and Hunan-based Chuangyuan Aluminum Co., Ltd are gradually reaching their full capacity of 320,000 tpy and 150,000tpy respectively.
