Chinese Al smelters hang together to import alumina

Coordinated by the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association(CNI-A), officials of 20-odd aluminum smelters that have obtained alumina importing license through general trade method met in Beijing on October 24 to discuss how to unify in importing alumina and negotiate with overseas alumina suppliers. Industrial insiders who attended the meeting disclosed that a Chinese alumina purchasing team including a number of smelters and China Minmetals Corporation(Minmetals5 the largest importer of alumina in China) and Aluminum Corporation of China(Chinalco, the near-monopoly producer of alumina in China), will be officially established in the near term. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss rules and constitution of the alumina purchasing team. All the members have reached an agreement and expected to get a good result in importing alumina.
